Of all the rare oil signs made - what oil sign could possibly offer more influence, persona and be as collectable as one with the with the image of someone who helped draft our country's Declaration of Independence. Its none other than Benjamin Franklin, which on this sign us seen oiling the earth as its spinning on its axis. What better graphic example could anyone have for a lubricant!

This sign is an early Franklin Pennsylvania Oil Company sign, which is two-sided oven fired porcelain. One look at the unbelievable porcelain shelving of the Ben Franklin graphic says it all, the porcelain shelving has so such unbelievable height and detail that it actually shadows on the sign with the correct light exposure. In the banner in the center of the world, it states; Franklin Quality Oils Make The World Run Smoother. While the sign has some aging as shown in the images, she remains in very good presentable condition. Other than some minor chipping, some stress to the mid section, and some thinning of the steel where the grommet holes have suspended this sign for the biggest part of a century, the sign remains a masterpiece.

The few character flaws the sign has all but authenticate this great pieces age. The sign is manufactured by the Baltimore Enamel & Novelty Sign Company, which was founded in 1898. While the exact date of this sign is not known, we do know the Baltimore Enamel Company which was one of the largest manufactures of porcelain signs, began their business in 1898 and finally ended their manufacturing in the early 40s.
